A legal document can record who should receive your Bitcoin. Someone still needs a practical path to identify the wallet, understand the custody arrangement and complete recovery without exposing secrets too early.
A prepared recovery path can allow access and transfer without waiting for a bank, exchange or custodian to release the asset.
An exchange or custodian can introduce verification, delay, restriction or freeze risk when a family needs clarity and access.
Lost keys, unknown passphrases, conflicting backups or inaccessible recovery knowledge can make Bitcoin unrecoverable.

After a close family member died suddenly and without a will, Joe saw firsthand how quickly practical costs arise. Funeral arrangements, travel, administration and other immediate expenses can all need to be dealt with long before an estate is understood, settled or accessible.
It reinforced a simple point: end-of-life planning needs to be operationally workable, not just documented. Families need to know what exists, how it can be accessed, and what needs to happen when the person who normally manages everything is no longer there.
Bitcoin can be one part of that planning. Properly self-custodied Bitcoin can remain directly controlled and transferable without depending on a bank, exchange or other custodian to release it. But that only helps if the right people understand how to recover and use it when the time comes.
A will remains important, and legal and estate-planning matters should be handled with qualified professionals.
Arise Bitcoin provides Bitcoin-only self-custody operational guidance for individuals, families and SMSF trustees.
This session covers Bitcoin self-custody operations only and does not provide financial, legal, tax, SMSF or estate-planning advice.
Arise does not provide investment, accounting, audit or compliance advice. Those matters belong with appropriately qualified or licensed professionals.
Arise will never ask for seed phrases, private keys, passphrases or wallet recovery secrets.
